A bloody cycle of revenge is set in motion by a King’s sacrifice of his daughter to the gods. Hauntings and murder repeat, as family love and loyalty are pushed to extreme limits through reason and ensuing madness.

Zinnie Harris’s reworking of Aeschylus’ Greek classical trilogy, Oresteia, injects the epic two-and-a-half-thousand-year-old tragedy with a merciless modern sensibility, placing women in the forefront. An exploration of trauma, demons throughout the ages, ghosts, and contemporary psychosis.

The 57th group of Drama Centre will perform Agamemnon Returns, The Bough Breaks, and Electra and her Shadow as the final show of their training. The production is directed by Owen Horsley, who after training at Drama Centre has gone on to be an Associate Director of Cheek by Jowl and the RSC.

Zinnie Harris reimagines this ancient drama, using a contemporary sensibility to rework the stories, placing the women in the centre.
