Mother [singular]

Platform, Southwark, 2018

A verbatim play

Created and directed by Maddy Corner

Cast: Gabrielle Pausey, Sophie Winter-King, Fiona Carson

Movement Director: Kaiya Bartholomew

Through the words of eight real women, this frank and honest play gives an insight into what it is like to be a single mother.  Crossing over through themes of religion, sexuality, IVF, unhealthy and abusive relationships, divorce, race, adoption, teenage pregnancy and support networks this play speaks to everyone, men, women, parents or children. We dive into a world of realism and listen to women speak about their experiences as mothers in an unfiltered, unapologetic way.

Taking inspiration from Maddy’s own upbringing and a documentary-style insight into the lives of others, Mother [singular] aims to break down stereotypes and reveal the strength and devotion of these women to their children and the importance of their lives and freedom.
